DUSHANBE, October 31, 2009, Asia-Plus  — On Friday October 30, President Emomali Rahmon received visiting governor of Ukraine’s Kharkov region, Arsen Avakov, according to presidential press service.

In the course of the talks, Avakov informed Tajik leader of the results of trips of the Kharkov delegation to the Khatlon province, the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and the site for construction of the Roghun HPP.

Ukrainian official expressed hope for further expansion of a large-scale and many-sided cooperation with Tajikistan.  According to him, Tajikistan with its rich energy resources and good industrial potential may become the main product market for industrial goods produced by the Kharkov enterprises.

The sides expressed readiness for launch of joint enterprises for production of units for small power plants, tractor assembly and production of medicines in Tajikistan.

During the meeting, Avakov also raised the issue of opening of Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Dushanbe.  He noted the President Yushchenko had charged him to discuss that issue.

The Kharkov delegation, led by Arsen Avakov, was in Tajikistan on a three-day working visit from October 28 to October 30.  A number of cooperation documents were signed during the visit.
