KHOROG, November 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The GBAO directorate for TV and radio-broadcasting was the first in Gorno Badakhshan to respond to an appeal by the council of veterans of Tajikistan and transfer money to help construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), the directorate chairperson, Ms. Zulfia Lahskarbekova, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to her, a special meeting on this subject was held on November 16 and the directorate staff decided to transfer their one-day’s wages to help Roghun’s construction.

“Of course, the amount is inconsiderable, however, we hope that contribution of citizens will help construct the Roghun HPP, which is of significant importance for further development of our country,” Lashkarbekova said.

The Roghun HPP, started in Soviet times but never finished, is key to Tajikistan”s goal to become a significant regional electricity exporter.
