DUSHANBE, December 1, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The number of the A/H1N1 flu cases has risen to seven in Tajikistan, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

“Five of those having contracted the infection are foreign nationals from India, Africa, Italy, Russia and China,” said the source at a MoH, “They were already infected with A/H1N1 when they arrived in Tajikistan.”

According to him, three of them were hospitalized straight on arrival in Tajikistan and they are currently undergoing an appropriate treatment.

“The remaining four A/H1N1 flu cases have been detected in the course of laboratory research,” the source noted, adding that all the A/H1N1patients are now in satisfactory health condition.

We will recall that the first case of the A/H1N1 flu was registered in Tajikistan in early November.

By this day, the virology at the Center for sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision of Tajikistan has tested 160 persons having symptoms of seasonal influenza.

The A/H1N1 flu is also known as California or swine flu.  The initial outbreak was called the “H1N1 influenza”.  It is officially called pandemic H1N1 flu” by the World Health Organization (WHO), while US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) refers to it as “novel influenza A (H1N1)” or “2009 H1N1 flu.”  The World Organization for Animal Health proposed the name “North American influenza.”  The European Commission adopted the term “novel flu virus.”  The main strain of virus has been termed “A/California/07/2009 (H1N1)” by scientists.
