DUSHANBE, December 4, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan tops the CIS states in terms of rate of growth in cargo shipping volume in January-October 2009, according to the CS Interstate Committee for Statistics.

Compared to January-October 2008, cargo shipping volume in Tajikistan has risen 17.1 percent in the first ten months of this year.

Tajikistan is followed by Armenia, where an 8.3 percent growth in cargo shipping volume has been reported over the same ten-month period.  In Kyrgyzstan, the cargo shipping volume has risen 7 percent over the report period.

In the meantime, in other CIS states the car shipping volumes have decreased over the report period: in Moldova by 57.3 percent; in Ukraine by 27.8 percent; in Russia by 22.3 percent; in Kazakhstan by 8.5 percent, in Belarus by 4.3 percent; and in Azerbaijan by 0.5 percent.

The CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics does not have cargo shipping volume rates for Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in its report.

Over the report period, the cargo shipping volumes within the Commonwealth of Independent States have decreased on average by 18 percent.
