DUSHANBE, December 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A two-day seminar formally titled “Media and the Right of Citizens to Participation in Political Life and Public Managed” has opened at the Center for Strategic Studies in Dushanbe today.

Organized by the information analysis department of President’s Executive Office, Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the seminar has brought together representatives from president’s office, CCER, lawyers and journalists to discuss issues related to participation of citizens in political life of the country.

The seminar is discussing the following subjects: Tajikistan’s parliamentary elections code and international standards of elections; activity of the CCER; legal liability of media and journalists in the course of preparation and holding of elections; and legal and practical aspects of relations between media and electoral commissions, public management bodies and public associations in the course of preparation and holding of elections.
