KHUJAND, January 19, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Private TV station, Jahonoro, which had operated in the city of Chkalovsk (Sughd province) for some 13 years, has moved to the town of Ghafurov, the administrative center of Sughd’s Bobojonghafurov district.

Speaking to reporters on January 18, the Chkalovsk mayor Shavkat Boboyev noted that the Jahonoro administration informed the mayor’s office about its decision to move to Ghafurov on December 31, 2009.  “It happened without preliminary discussions with the city authorities,” the mayor said.

In this connection, a new TV station will be set up in Chkalovsk.  “US$20,000 worth of equipment has been already purchased and the new TV station is expected to go on the air in Chkalovsk in a month,” Boboyev said, noting that the new TV station will also be named Jahonoro.

In the meantime, the Jahonoro director Mahmoudjon Dadaboyev told Asia-Plus today that they have decided to move to Ghafurov in order to expand the broadcast range.  “Now our station will be able to cover Chkalovsk, the Bobojonghafurov district and the city of Qairoqqum,” he said.
