DUSHANBE, January 21, 2010, Asia-Plus — According to implementation of technical cooperation project of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), directed to render support of Strategy for Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) in Tajikistan, there were provided 11 items of basic medicines and nutrients, press release issued by the JICA Dushanbe Office on January 20 said.

Also, at the end of 2009, JICA supplied vaccines against “Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus (DTP)”,   “Bacille de Calmette et Guerin (BCG)” and “Oral polio vaccine (OPV)”. And also vaccines against “Hepatite B (Hep-B)” were provided for realization within the wide Immunization Program in Republic of Tajikistan.

Since 2002 Government of Japan with close cooperation with UNICEF have been supplying to Tajikistan 4 types of vaccines for support of wide Immunization Program, and also number of medicines/nutrients recommended by WHO in line with implementation of Strategy for Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses.  Duration of third current phase of the project is 5 years (2009-2013) with the annual budget of 60 million Yen (more than 600 thousand US dollars).  Also, total of 40 million Yen (400 thousand US dollars) have been contributed for the vaccines and 20 million Yen (200 thousand US dollars) for basic medicines in 2009.
