DUSHANBE, February 15, 2010, Asia-Plus – Issues related to establishment of bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Islamic Azad University of Tehran (Iran) were discussed at a meeting of Minister of Education Abdujabbor Rahmonov with visiting President of Islamic Azad University, Professor Abdollah J. Jassbi, which was held in Dushanbe on February 13.

The source at a MoE told Asia-Plus today that the two discussed a broad range of issues related to educational cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran, including student exchange and joint research programs as well publication of textbooks for Tajikistan.

The Tajik education minister proposed to open a Research Center at Tajik National University in Dushanbe.  Rahmonov suggested that the center should be opened in September this year.

The sides also discussed opening of a branch of the Islamic Azad University in Tajikistan.  “Rahmonov seconded this proposal by Professor Jassbi, noting that it will be submitted for consideration to the government,” said the source, “The minister noted that the branch will be opened if the head of state seconds this proposal.”

The sides decided to prepare a memorandum of cooperation and this document is expected to be signed before Iranian delegation leaves Tajikistan.

Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar Sherdoust also attended this meeting.
