QURGHON TEPPA, March 12, 2010, Asia-Plus – The Khatlon regional council (Majlisi) has nominated province’s governor Ghaybullo Avzalov as candidate for the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).

The first session of the Khatlon council took place yesterday and members of local legislature also discussed a number of organizational issues.

In the meantime, local experts expect chairmen of Bokhtar (Abualim Ismoilov), Danghara (Mahmadali Saydaliyev), Shahritous (Kholmurod Rahmnov) and Panj (Mirzodavlat Sabourov) districts as well as Kulob mayor Abdullo Homidov to be also nominated for parliament’s upper house.

We will recall that elections to the Majlisi Milli are scheduled for March 25, 2010 and Gorno Badakhshan, regions, Dushanbe, and cities and districts subordinate to the centre have an equal number of representatives in the Majlisi Milli (five each).
