Pair from Khujand suspected of trafficking women to UAE

DUSHANBE, April 16, 2010, Asia-Plus  – The source at the Sughd police directorate says their officers yesterday arrested Mahbouba Muhiddinova in Khujand who together with her husband were allegedly trafficking local young woman to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“The 31-year-old Mahbouba Muhiddinova and her 37 year-old husband Haidar Umarov trafficked the 27 year-old woman, from the Panjakent district, N.B., to Dubai where they made her engage in prostitution,” the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Muhiddinova and her husband under the provisions of Article 132, Part 3 of Tajikistan Penal Code (recruitment of people for sexual and other forms of exploitation).  Local police are taking measures to detain her husband Haidar Umarov, the source added.
