DUSHANBE, April 27, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in cooperation with the Government of Tajikistan, is conducting a Loan Disbursement Seminar in Dushanbe on April 26-27, according to ADB’s Tajikistan Resident Mission (TJRM).

About 40 government officials and staff from executing agencies and project implementation units dealing with ADB-funded projects are taking part in the seminar. Staff members from ADB”s TJRM are also attending the seminar.

Opening the seminar, Mr. Makoto Ojiro, ADB’s Country Director for Tajikistan, noted, “The key objective of the seminar is to inform, orient and build capacity of its participants on ADB policies and procedures related to loan and grant disbursement.”  According to him, it is very timely to conduct this seminar because of ADB”s expanding portfolio in Tajikistan which has now reached $370 million.

The seminar consists of lectures, interactive question and answer sessions, group work/role playing exercises, and case studies.  Specialists, led by ADB”s Financial Control Specialist Viliami Sefesi, came from ADB’s headquarters in Manila, Philippines to facilitate the seminar.

Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998, and to date has received total assistance of about $560 million in concessional loans, grants and technical assistance from this institution. ADB”s grant assistance package to Tajikistan for 2010 is about $150 million. The assistance program is expected to support energy and private sector development.
