DUSHANBE, April 29, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Over the first three months of this year, Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity suppliers) has repaid more than 44 percent (98.9 million somoni) of its debt to the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP), the Barqi Tojik deputy head Abdullo Qurbonov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe yesterday.

According to him, Barqi Tojik now owes 124.7 million somoni to the Sangtuda-1 HPP, while as of January 1, 2010, Barqi Tojik’s debt to the Sangtda-1 station amounted to 223.6 million somoni.

Barqi Tojik is not yet able to settle the debt because of the low rate of the collection of funds from the public and enterprises, Qurbonov added.  “Organizations, enterprises and the public now owe more than 554.6 million somoni to Barqi Tojik,” the Barqi Tojik deputy head said.

Among the largest debtors are Tajik Aluminum Company (154.9 million somoni), the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (133.4 million somoni), and the Ministry of Agriculture (24.6 million somoni).  The public electricity debts have amounted to 170 million somoni.

“This year, Barqi Tojik has filed 309 suits against the most incorrigible nonpayers in the country’s Economic Court and 1.7 million somoni have been reimbursed to this day,” Qurbonov said, noting that Barqi Tojik now owes 244 million somoni to the country’s budget.
