KHUJAND, May 8, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov has presented the commemorative medal for the 65th Anniversary of Victory to the Full Holder of the Order Glory Abdunazar Farmonqulov, resident of the city of Istaravshan in Sughd province.

The prime minister also handed over an extraordinary grant of 600 somoni to the war veteran on behalf of President Emomali Rahmon.  Similar extraordinary grants were handed over to Farmonqulov on behalf of the regional and city administrations.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, Oqilov noted that more than 300,000 residents of Tajikistan participated in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and more than 92,000 of them died in battles.  Fifty-five Tajikistan were given the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, many of them posthumously.  Besides, fifteen other Tajiks were Full Holders of the Order of Glory and one of them is Abdunazar Farmonqulov, Oqilov said.

More than 15,000 residents of Istaravshan participated in World War II.  97 war veterans and 153 home front participants now live in Istaravshan.  All of them received extraordinary grants of 500 to 1,000 somoni on behalf of the president and the regional and city administrations.
