DUSHANBE, May 19, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Some 1,150 freight car bound for Tajikistan are still being held up on Uzbek territory, Andrey Tropin, the deputy head of the shipment department within Tajik Railways, told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.

According to him, 639 of those are loaded with fuel, 102 are loaded with cement, 93 freight cars are loaded with what flour, 83 cars are loaded with liquefied gas, 37 cars contain bitumen and 129 other freight cars contain various other cargos.

Tropin noted that the freight delays have led to damage and theft of cargos.  “Besides, increase in temperatures may lead to inflammation of fuels,” the Tajik Railways official stressed.

Tropin added that the main problem was now the delays in rail cargo bound for Khatlon province.  “Since May 8, 254 cars carrying 14,770 tons of cargos, including fuel and wheat flour have been allowed to move into Khatlon province, while the remaining Khatlon-bound freight cars are still being held up on Uzbek territory,” he noted.
