DUSHANBE. June 7. “Asia-Plus” — Russian Federation did not remove its travel ban on children from Tajikistan under 6 years of age due to outbreak of poliomyelitis in the republic, Chief sanitary doctor of the republic Azam Mirzoev told the AP.
According to him, Tajik Health Ministry sent two official letters to Russian Ministry of Health with the request to remove travel ban which is valid till June 6. However, no reply was received.
Tajik Deputy Health Minister believes that this problem will be solved after June 14 at the end of a two-week term after the final stage of the nation-wide vaccination campaign which covers children under 6 years of age and which was conducted in the republic from June 1 to June 5.
Chief sanitary doctor of the republic said that current situation with polio in Tajikistan is improving. “Only 100 people out of 273 patients hospitalized with polio symptoms remain in hospitals, while health condition of the others has improved. As all of them were tested negative they were discharged from hospitals,” Mirzoev commented.
According to him, 515 people were registered in the country with polio symptoms, but only 150 of them were tested positive. The number of lethal cases remains the same – two people.
