Dushanbe. June 21. “Asia-Plus” — Uzbekistan keeps blocking freight wagons designed for Khatlon area of Tajikistan, Deputy Head of the Transportation Service of the Tajik Railways company Andrei Tropin told the AP.
He said that last Friday Uzbekistan has blocked the transit of freight wagons at Termez – Amuzang – Kurgon-Teppa direction for unknown reasons. “Previously, from 15 up to 20 freight wagons were coming to Tajikistan through the given section of the railroad,” Tropin has said.
He said that more than 2000 wagons with cargoes designed for Tajikistan are being blocked on the territory of Uzbekistan for unknown reasons. And this figure keeps growing. “There are nearly 600 wagons with cargoes destined to Khatlon area,” he added.
Related agreement on unlimited transit of Tajik cargoes, except those designed for construction of Rogun HPP, was achieved during the meeting between Presidents of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on June 11 this year.
Last week Iran warned Uzbekistan that it will limit the transit of Uzbek freight wagons through its territory if Uzbekistan continues to block Tajik freight wagons.
Uzbek rail officials have assured their Iranian colleagues that this problem with Tajik cargoes will be settled within the nearest time and urged Iran not to limit the transit of Uzbek freight wagons through its territory.
