KULOB, July 14, 2010, Asia-Plus — 8,589,198 somoni of dilapidated banknotes have been immobilized in the Kulob zone of Khatlon province over the first seven months of this year, which is 3,055,777 somoni more than in the same period last year, Abdukarim Nematov, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the major part of the dilapidated banknotes was immobilized through the branches of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) and Agroinvestbonk as well as NBT’s branch in the area.

Amonabonk’s branches have replaced 786,298 somoni of the dilapidated banknotes with the new ones over the report period and branches of Agroinvestbonk have replaced 5,867,070 somoni of the dilapidated banknotes.  NBT’s branch has replaced 1,456,676 somoni of the dilapidated banknotes with the new ones over the same six-month period, Nematov noted.
