DUSHANBE, August 3, 2010, Asia-Plus  — State and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and the World Bank were a major topic of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with visiting World Bank delegation that took place in Dushanbe on August 2, according to presidential press service.

President Rahmon expressed gratitude to the World Bank for inclusion of priorities of development of the country into the list of measures of the country partnership strategy (CPS) and assistance to mitigate effects of the global financial and economic crisis on the country’s economy.

The sides expressed interest in expansion of diversified cooperation that has almost 20-year history, the press service noted.

Special attention was paid to the techno-economic, the environmental and social impact assessments for the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

Mr. Theodor Alers, the World Bank Strategy and Operations Director, informed President Rahmon of the results of discussions on that issues that had recently taken place with participation of senior representatives from the World Bank.

President Rahmon noted that assessments must be conducted at the high level so that there would be no any doubt about its safety and environmental sustainability.

The World Bank representatives noted that internationally known specialists would be hired to conduct the assessment studies.
