DUSHANBE, August 10, 2010, Asia-Plus – The Agreement between Embassy of Japan in RT and the Swiss fund on mine clearing is signed today in Dushanbe.

According to the signed document, the government of Japan allocates means for acquisition of the mechanical car for mine clearing, and also payment of cost of one year of its operation. The total cost of assistance is $726 thousand.

The agreement is signed within bounds of the international cooperation in the field of the program of anti-torpedo activity in Tajikistan. As “AP” said, the chief of the Tajik centre on mine questions Jonmahmad Rajabov, it is almost not the first aid from the side of government of Japan. «Till now Japan assisted three times for a total sum $600 thousand », – said he.

This is already the third car on the mine clearing, given by the international community. According to D.Rajabov, before one car has been received with support of the government of the USA and OSCE, the second car – with support of the government of Canada and Germany. «The given cars will allow us to accelerate mine clearing process, and to reach the main objective – to make Tajikistan the country, free from mines», – underlined D.Rajabov.

As he said, the given cars will be used in all mined territories where technics use is possible. For today in RT remains about 11 million sq. metres of a dangerous zone. As D.Rajhabov said, from 60 million sq. m. of the mined area, by the physical way succeed in clearing about 5 million sq. metres. In total since 1992 the victims of mines in RT became more than 800 peoples – from them 358 persons were died, the others have got wounds of various severity level.
