DUSHANBE, August 26, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Farmers have reached 99.6 percent of the intermediate crops sowing target to this day, planting intermediate crops on 174,383 hectares, the source at the crop sector department within the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

“More than 66,000 hectares of intermediate crops are the grain fields, more than 10,000 hectares are the rice plantations, some 18,000 hectares are areas under vegetables, 1,700 hectares are areas under potatoes, 4,700 hectares are areas under melon crops, 3,200 hectares have been allotted to industrial crops cultivation, and more than 80,000 hectares have been allotted to the fodder crop,” the source said.

In Khatlon province, intermediate crops have been planted on 97,100 hectares, which is 99.2 percent of the target.

Farmers in the northern Sughd province have overfulfilled the intermediate crops sowing target by 4 percent, planting intermediate crops on 51,179 hectares.

Districts subordinate to the center have also overfulfilled the intermediate crops sowing target by 4 percent, planting intermediate crops on 25,800 hectares against the originally planned 25,700 hectares.

In Gorno Badakhshan, the intermediate crops sowing is progressing.  To-date, local farmers have reached 57.7 percent of the target, planting intermediate crops on 173 hectares.  This year, 300 hectares have been allotted to the intermediate crops sowing in the region.

We will recall that 200,000 hectares were allotted to the intermediate crops sowing in 2009; however, farmers last year planted intermediate crops on only 170,000 hectares.
