DUSHANBE, August 27, 2010, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon today morning had telephone conversations with Sughd Governor Qohir Rasoulzoda and Ayni District Chairman Rustam Rahmatov to discuss measures taken to mitigate effects of floods and mudflows that recently affected Ayni district, according too presidential press service.
The head of state ordered the Sughd regional administrators to provide assistance to families whose houses had been destroyed completely by disaster with construction of new houses on the territory of Zafarobod district.
We will recall that torrential rain on August 23 caused a series of mudflows in Ayni district, Sughd province. One of the mudflows killed the 80-year-old woman from the village of Putkhin, Muyassar Boboyeva. Heavy rainfalls also caused floods in the villages of Sangiston, Zosun, Tomin, Pokhud, Shevatki Poyon, and Rarz in the Ayni district. Floods reportedly completely destroyed six residential buildings and partially damaged 25-30 houses in the area. Besides, floods damaged 6 hectares of farmland, 3 kilometers of roads, and destroyed 4 bridges. Besides, 40 head of cattle and 15 head of sheep and goats were killed by floods.
