DUSHANBE, September 13, Asia-Plus  — Measures to ration electricity supplies will be introduced in Tajikistan during autumn-winter 2010-2011 as well.

The source at Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik state electricity supplier) has told Asia-Plus that Barqi Tojik will submit the plan of actions developed for autumn-winter 2010-2011 for consideration to the government on September 20.  The plan also mentions the date for introduction of electricity rationing in the country, he added.

We will recall that electricity rationing is usually introduced in regions except the capital Dushanbe in October and lasts through April next year.  The measures seek to curb the country’s rising electricity consumption.  In addition to curbing rising consumption, the move also stems from decline in the water level in the country’s reservoirs powering main hydroelectric power plants.

Last year, the measures rationing electricity supplies were introduced in the country in early November and lasted through March 2010.  Electricity rationing introduced in autumn-winter 2009-2010 resulted in the supply of daily electric power to rural districts reduced to seven hours.  Last year, electricity rationing did not hit Dushanbe and regional administrative centers.
