KULOB, September 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — Farmers from five cotton producing districts in the Kulob zone of Khatlon province have yielded 5,155 tons of raw cotton by September 15, which is 1,540 tons more than in the same period last year, Abdullo Rajabov, a lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said.

“Farming units in Farkhor district have yielded 3,800 tons of cotton and farmers in Hamadoni district have yielded 1,056 tons of cotton to this day,” said Rajabov, “Vose district has produced 660 tons of cotton by September 15 and the cotton-harvesting campaign is progressing in Kulob and Danghara districts as well.”

26,783 hectares of farmland in the Kulob zone has been allotted to cotton cultivation this year and local cotton farmers plan to yield 51,431 tons of cotton.
