DUSHANBE, September 30, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Mr. Miroslav Jenca,  Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and  Head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), is arriving in Dushanbe today morning on a three-day working visit, according the Tajik MFA information department.

During his stay in Tajikistan, Mr. Jenca is scheduled to hold talks with President Emmali Rahmon and a number of other high-ranking Tajik state officials.

We will recall that President Rahmon met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week in New York on sidelines of the UN General Assembly annual session.  In the course of the talks, Tajik leader pointed to the necessity of promotion of the UN preventive diplomacy in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan, noting that “stability in the region depends on the situation in these countries.”

The United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was inaugurated in December 2007 to help the region’s countries respond more proactively to cross-border challenges and threats before they can become costlier and more difficult to control.

The Center is tasked with assisting the governments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in building capacities to peacefully prevent conflict, in facilitating dialogue, and in catalyzing international support behind projects and initiatives.
