KHUJAND, October 4, 2010, Asia-Plus — The third regional eco journalism competition was announced in Khujand, the administrative center of Sughd province on October 1.
The competition is organized by the Sughd regional administration, Sughd agency for environmental protection and the branch of Tajik Journalist’s Union in Sughd under financial support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan and the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe.
The goal of this annual competition is in promoting development and active involvement of mass media in the region and increasing professional skills of journalists from print and electronic media in covering the environmental protection issues as well as raising the public’s awareness of the environmental protection and rational nature management issues.
The contest is an important event, providing incentives for print and electronic media to publish and broadcast socially significant materials related to the environmental protection.
In their works, journalists should touch upon problems related to biodiversity, climate change, the environment and security, and ecotourism.
The informational materials published or aired from May 1, 2009 to November 15, 2010 are accepted for participation in the contest that will be held in five categories: radio reporting; TV program; the press; Internet publication; and the children and youth’s nomination.
The materials for participation in the competition are accepted till November 20, 2001.
