DUSHANBE, October 7, 2010, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan is successfully fulfilling its international obligations on freedom of movement, Sherali Jononov, an official with the Tajik MFA, remarked at the OSCE Review Conference in Warsaw, Poland on October 6, according to the Tajik MFA information department.
Delivering a statement on steps taken by Tajikistan to ensure freedom of movement, Mr. Jononov noted that Tajikistan, as the OSCE participating State, recognized significance of integration into international community and had signed a number of multilateral and bilateral agreements on mutual travels.
He also acquainted those present with laws adopted by Tajikistan to simplify visa issuance procedures for foreign citizens and stateless persons.
Tajik MFA official also noted that Tajik government endorsed the national border management strategy and the plan of actions for implementation of it in May this year. This strategy was developed by the national working group in cooperation with the OSCE experts.
The Warsaw segment of the OSCE”s Review Conference got underway on September 30 with calls on participating States to live up to the human rights and democracy commitments they have promised to adhere to as part of the Organization. Representatives of the 56 OSCE participating States gathered in Warsaw to review the progress they have made in implementing commitments relating to human rights and fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, democracy, and tolerance and non-discrimination.
The Warsaw segment, which ends on October 8, is the first part of a three-part review conference ahead of the OSCE Summit to be held in the Kazakh capital Astana on December 1-2. The second and third parts of the review conference will be held in Vienna from October 18-26 and in Astana from November 26-28.
