DUSHANBE, October 23, 2010, Asia-Plus — A meeting to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan took place at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) in Dushanbe on October 22, according to the MEDT press service.
The meeting brought together senior representatives from a MEDT and the Pakistani Embassy in Dushanbe to consider measures to expand trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting participants, in particular, noted that Tajikistan and Pakistan had a great potential for expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
Representatives of the Pakistan Embassy noted that large Pakistani companies were ready to invest in development of Tajikistan’s economy. According to them, an investment climate created in Tajikistan favors expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries, the source said.
According to him, Pakistan plans to invest in sectors like sewing industry and construction of cotton-processing factories in Tajikistan.
The sides also discussed attraction of direct investments for development of free economic zones (FEZ) in Tajikistan.
