DUSHANBE, February 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — In January 2011, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, amounted to 381 million U.S. dollars, which was 143.1 percent of the January 2010 level or 114.7 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to some 106.8 million US dollars.

Exports of goods in January 2011 amounted to 137.1 million US dollars, which was 39.4 percent, or 38.8 million U.S. dollars, more than in the same period last year.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period amounted to 243.9 million U.S. dollars, which was 45.2 percent, or 75.9 million dollars, more than in January 2010.

 Last month, Tajikistan had trade relations with 66 countries of the world, including 9 CIS nations.

Compared to January 2010, Tajikistan’s cotton fiber exports doubled and export of non-precious metals rose 19.8 percent last month.  In the meantime, import of electricity and natural gas decreased by 37 and 8.9 percent respectively.
