DUSHANBE, March 3, 2011, Asia-Plus — In a statement released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s team head Todd Schneider noted on March 2 that the IMF mission advises the Tajik authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the country’s tax policy regime in order to further strengthen prospects for private sector growth.

According to him, the country should create tax climate that would be able to promote development of private sector.  “Availability of clear and transparent tax policy regime is the best way to stimulate development of the private sector,” Mr. Schneider said, noting that the Fund is ready to provide technical assistance in that area.

The IMF team that will deal with issues of providing technical assistance will arrive in Tajikistan in April this year, the head of the IMF mission to Tajikistan said.  Mr. Schneider noted that the Government of Tajikistan should prepare the tax regime reform strategy by the beginning of the work on the country’s national budget for 2012.

“The technical assistance will be provided most likely in April and the tax regime strategy should be prepared by middle of this year, when the work on preparation of the national budget for 2012 will begin,” the IMF team head noted.
