DUSHANBE, April 27, 2011, Asia-Plus — 55 investment projects for a total amount of 7.98 billion somoni (equivalent to nearly 1.8 billion U.S. dollars) are currently being implemented in Tajikistan, the head of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 26.

According to him, Iran, the United Kingdom, Russia and China were the main investors in Tajikistan’s economy over the first three months of this year.

“Iran was the largest investor in Tajikistan over the report period.  Iran has invested 97.4 million U.S. dollars in our economy in January-March this year,” said the GosKomInvest head, “The United Kingdom has invested US$42.4 million, the Russian Federation – US$39.7 million, and China – US$31.6 million.”

Over the same three-month period, US$180 million have reportedly been attracted into Dushanbe, which is followed by Sughd province (US$33 million) and Khatlon province (US$17 million).  US$360,000 have been attracted into districts subordinate to the center over the report period.
