KHUJAND, May 18, 2011, Asia-Plus — Installation of the second transformer at the Sughd-500 substation in Ghonchi district will improve electricity supplies in the province, Mumin Toshmatov, the deputy head of Barqi Tojik’s branch in Sughd, says.

According to him, the second transformer is expected to be introduced into operation on June 10.  “Electricity is now supplied to the Sughd-500 substation via the 500W South-North power transmission line and from there, it is distributed to across the whole province, except Panjakent, Ayni and Kuhistoni Mastchoh districts,” said Toshmatov, “The power transmission line capacity is 27 million kWh of electricity per day, while the capacity of the transformer installed at the substation is only 10 million kWh of electrical power per day.  Therefore, temporary electricity disruptions in the area result not from electricity shortages; they are connected with the capacity of the power system.”

According to him, current Sughd’s daily requirements in electricity are up to 14 million kWh, while the province now receives little more than 12 million kWh of electricity per day.  “Installation of the second transformer will improve electricity supplies in the province,” Toshmatov said.
