QURGHON TEPPA, May 23, 2011, Asia-Plus — The pretrial detention facility run by the Qurghon Teppa police department has been temporarily closed for failure to comply with sanitary standards and other statutory norms, the Qurghon Teppa deputy prosecutor, Mahmadsaid Nasimov, told Asia-Plus today.

According to him, inspection by the prosecutor’s office has revealed that the pretrial detention facility run by the Qurghon Teppa police department does not comply with sanitary standards and it has been closed following a ruling by the Qurghon Teppa prosecutor’s office.

The building of the Qurghon Teppa police department is one of the oldest buildings in the city and the pretrial detention facility is located in the basement.

“Detainees will be held in the pretrial detention facility run by the Khatlon police directorate, until a new building of the pretrial detention facility of the Qurghon Teppa police department is constructed,” the prosecutor noted.
