DUSHANBE, June 23, 2011, Asia-Plus — Outgoing Pakistani Ambassador to Tajikistan Khalid Usman Kaiser conferred here Wednesday with President Emomali Rahmon at the end of his tenure to Tajikistan.

According to the presidential press service, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan.

President Rahmon, in particular, highly appraised a three-year activity of Ambassador Kaiser in Tajikistan.

In the course of the talks, the sides noted that there was considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries.  They expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan in sectors like trade, industry, minerals, transportation, agriculture, culture and science as well as in jointly addressing modern challenges and threats would continue to expand.

Rahmon and Kaiser also considered issues related to tripartite cooperation between Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as quadrilateral cooperation between Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Russia.

“They noted that the next meeting of the heads of state of the “Dushanbe G-4” that will take place in Tajikistan in September this year will give a new impulse to further development of this process,” the source said.

On the same day, President Rahmon met with U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Ken Gross.  They discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States, the current situation in Afghanistan and reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy, strengthening of Tajik-Afghan border as well as a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.
