KHUJAND, August 11, 2011, Asia-Plus – Entrants of the Khujand State University (KSU), the biggest university in north Tajikistan, will pass exams in rooms with newly installed security cameras. The move is aimed to eradicate corruption in the university.

Security cams were installed in six rooms and at the office of examination commission, where entrants will pass their exams, Ozod Islomov, executive secretary of the examination commission of the university told the AP.

Both entrants and their parents are satisfied with such “transparent” move, Islomov has said. A total of 3046 entrants have submitted their documents to KSU this year. Exams have started on August 1.

KSU senior officials are confident that they will continue to fight corruption, including through meetings with the community.

In July this year KSU officials said that students “are being selected on the basis of their knowledge and not via recommendations of their relatives and friends.”

Currently, students pay from 1296 Somoni ($280) to 1850 somoni ($400).
