DUSHANBE, August 30, 2011, Asia-Plus — The findings of the survey on monitoring expenses, time and documents required for export/import transactions were presented in Dushanbe on August 30.

Initiated by the USAID-sponsored Regional Trade Liberalization and Customs Project (RTLC), the survey was conducted by the Union of Professional Consultants of Tajikistan.

The RTLC Tajikistan Country Manager Parviz Kamoliddinov noted that the survey findings would be used in the future for improvement of the investment climate in Tajikistan and enhancing Tajikistan’s rating in the World Bank’s Doing Business survey.

The survey notes that Tajikistan has one  of the highest logistics costs in the world.

According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), transport expenses in Tajikistan amount to 14 percent of exports and 10 percent of imports.  It is the highest indicator in Central Asia.

The RTLC Project works in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan to foster economic growth and improve competitiveness through improving conditions for international and cross-border trade and transit.  Its goal is to help enterprises participate more effectively in the regional and global economy by making it easier for businesses to deliver their products to markets.  The RTLC team works to achieve improved competitiveness through reduced trade barriers, liberalized customs regimes, and expanded transit links throughout the region.
