KHUJAND, September 22, 2011, Asia-Plus — The Sughd regional museum is making preparations for two subject exhibitions, the museum curator, Ms. Kimiyo Atoyeva, told Asia-Plus Thursday afternoon.

“One of the exhibitions, entitled “Money Is the Ancient Way to Negotiate,” is dedicated to the Tsarist Russian coins,” said Atoyeva.  “Golden, silver and copper coins, including those from the Reign of Alexander II (1855-1881), will be put in display at the exhibition.”

According to her, the coins were found during construction of a fountain in the square in front of the Panjshanbe bazaar in Khujand.

Besides, coins dated to the Achaemenid Persian period (5th – 4th century BC) as well as the Kushan Dynasty period (2nd – 4th century AD) and the Qarakhanid Dynasty period (11th century AD) will also be put on display at the exhibition.

The second exhibition is entitled “Chil Charogh” (Forty Lamp).  Forty oil and kerosene lamps as well as gas-filled tubes will be put on display at this exhibition.

Both exhibitions will be held in late October and early November under support of the Hivos Foundation, the Netherlands, the museum curator added.
