DUSHNBE, September 26, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Muhiddin Kabiri has been reelected as chairman of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRP) for another four-year period.

The ninth congress of the IRP was held in Dushanbe on September 24.

250 delegates reportedly attended the congress.  68 delegates represented the IRP organization for Sughd, 76 delegates represented the IRP organization for Khatlon, 31 delegates represented districts subordinate to the center, and the IRP organizations in Dushanbe and Gorno Badakhshan were represented by 10 delegates each.

The delegates reelected Muhiddin Kabiri as chairman of the Islamic revival Party for another four-year period.

The congress also reviewed the results of work carried out over the past four years and elect new members of the party board.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is

Najot

(Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has some 25,000-30,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
