KHUJAND, September 29, 2011, Asia-Plus — A roundtable formally titled “Exchange of Approaches of the United Kingdom and Tajikistan to Business Environment and Tax Situation in FEZ” will take place in Sughd province.

The meeting that will be attended by British MP Nigel Mills will discuss issues related to economic development  and attraction of investments as well as tax policy in the free economic zone.

Organized by administration of the Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ), the meeting is expected t bring together representatives from the Sughd customs and tax agencies, economic entities operating within the FEZ Sughd, industrial and agricultural enterprises of the province as well as representatives from business associations and media.

The source says Mr. Nigel John Mills, who has been Member of British Parliament for Amber Valley since 2010 general election, has been invited as a short-term expert to study the opportunities of bilateral cooperation.  Mills qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999, working for PricewaterhouseCoopers until early 2010, moving on to Deloitte working as a Tax Adviser to businesses.

Mr. Mills has arrived in Tajikistan on a two-week visit and he has already held a number of meetings with senior representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), business associations and entrepreneurs in Dushanbe.

During his stay in northern Tajikistan, he has already held talks the Sughd regional administrators to discuss the province’s potential, attraction of investments, large investment projects being implemented here as well as measures taken by local authorities to create favorable business and investment climate and promote development of the FEZ Sughd.

Mr. Mills has also attended a number of industrial enterprises in Khujand and met with entrepreneurs and agricultural producers from the Bobojonghafruov district.  He has also got acquainted with the pace of the cotton-harvesting campaign in the area and visited cotton ginneries and greenhouses in the province.
