DUSHANBE, October 4, 2011, Asia-Plus — A joint operation by officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s office in Sughd province and the State Drug Control Service’s office for southern Kyrgyzstan has led to shutting down the channel for smuggling narcotics out of northern Tajikistan into Kyrgyzstan, the DCA press center reports.

An operation carried out by officers from the DCA’s office for Sughd in Khujand at the end of last week led to the arrest of two drug pushers.  Two packages containing more than five kilograms of hashish and one kilogram of heroin were confiscated from them.  The preliminary investigation has established that they were going to smuggle the narcotics into Kyrgyzstan, the source said.

According to him, the operation was carried out in the framework of a protocol on cooperation on providing drug security in border areas that was signed between the counternarcotics agencies of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on May 5, 2011.

Besides, officers from the DCA’s office in Khatlon province shut down the drug den in the Vakhsh district, the source added.
