DUSHANBE, October 12, 2011, Asia-Plus — The power supply in the coming winter will be like the power supply in the past winter when large cities had regular electricity supplies, while the regions had electricity 10-2 hours per day, an appeal by Abdullo Yorov, head of Barqi Tojik power holding (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan), released by the Barqi Tojik press center today, says.
In his appeal, Abdullo Yorov notes that consumption of electricity by large industrial enterprises such as TALCO (Tajik Aluminum Company), pump stations of the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (LRWR) and other state-run enterprises governmental has been minimized.
For the purpose of saving water at the Norak reservoir, Barqi Tojik’s offices in the provinces are ordered to cut off electricity overnight to unimportant facilities.
The Barqi Tojik top manager expressed hope that consumers would understand those measures.
On the introduction of electricity rationing, Yorov notes that introduction of that measure depends on weather conditions in upper reaches of the Vakhsh River.
In his appeal, the Barqi Tojik top manager also calls on the population to rationally use electrical power.
Measures rationing electricity supplies are usually introduced in all regions except Dushanbe and seek to curb the country”s rising electricity consumption. The rationing is introduced in October or November and lasts through April next year. The rationing results in the supply of daily electrical power being reduced to 12 or 10 hours. In addition to curbing rising consumption, the move also stems from a decline in the water level in the country”s reservoirs powering the main hydroelectric power plants.
