DUSHANBE, October 27, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The first meeting of the Tajik-Belarusian Business Council took place in Dushanbe on October 26.

Organized by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) of both countries, the meeting resulted in signing of the Regulations on Activities of the Tajik-Belarusian Business Council.  The document was inked by Sharif Said, the head of Tajikistan’s CCI, and his Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Myatlikov.

Speaking at the meeting, Tajik CCI head noted that both countries had all necessary opportunities for further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation.  According to him, there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties.

Sharif Said outlined sectors like engineering industry, agriculture, mining and production of building materials as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

On the issue of establishment of the Business Council, head of Tajik CCI noted that it was dedicated to promote expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between business communities of the two countries.  Besides, the council will protect rights and interests of entrepreneurs of the two countries while they are conducting business activities, he added.

Belarusian CCI head Mikhail Myatlikov, for his part, noted that the Business Council would organize meetings to discuss problems facing the business communities of the two countries and would play an important role in seeking new business partners.

The next meeting of the Tajik-Belarusian Business Council will take lace in the Belarusian capital Minsk in 2012.

Belarusian delegation members included senior representatives from leading banks and enterprises of the country: Bobruisk plant of tractor parts and units; Dorelekrtomash; Promagroleasing; Intern Mebel; glasswork Neman, Belmedpreparaty; Bealagroprombank, VItebsk branch of Belarus CCI.

The Tajik side was represented by senior representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Industries, the Pharmaceutics Directorate at the Ministry of Health, banks, etc.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Belarus in January-September 2011 has valued more than 52.8 million U.S. dollars, which is 47.7 percent more than in the same period last year.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Belarus estimated at 9.7 million U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Belarus worth some 43.8 million U.S. dollars.
