DUSHANBE, December 6, 2011, Asia-Plus — A three-day training “International Legal Instruments on Trans-Boundary Water Management” ”organized by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) with support of the Government of the United States of America, is going on in Ashgabat, according to UNRCCA.

Launched on December 5, the training reportedly brought together representatives of all five Central Asian countries.

International experts conduct presentations on international water law in order to enhance knowledge and skills for specialists from the region for the effective use of trans-boundary water resources and resolution of potential disputes on the bases of the interests of all states involved.

The legal instruments in the field of dispute resolution on trans-boundary water resources, as well as best experience and international practices in this area are being reviewed. The program of the training includes a study of preventive diplomacy methodology and negotiation practices.

The UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was established in December 2007 on the initiative of the five Central Asian countries to support governments in developing their conflict prevention capacities through enhanced dialogue, confidence building measures and establishing genuine partnerships in order to respond to existing threats and emerging challenges in the Central Asian Region.
