DUSHANBE, December 13, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A two-day official visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Germany has started today.

Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali, Minister of Health Nusratullo Salimov, Chairman of the Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim and State Adviser to the President for International Issues Erkin Rahmatulloyev are accompanying Rahmon on his visit to Germany.

According to the Tajik presidential press service, Emomali Rahmon is holding talks with the President of Germany Christian Wilhelm Wulff and the Chancellor of Germany Angela Dorothea Merkel President today.

The Tajik head of state is also scheduled to visit the Bundestag (the national parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany) and hold meetings with German MPs.

President Rahmon’s visit to Germany will result in signing of a number of agreements on cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany in the fields of investment, health care and geological exploration, the source said.

During his stay in Germany, President Rahmon is also expected to meet with representatives of Tajik Diaspora and visit Siemens AG.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Germany in 2010 exceeded 31.38 million U.S. dollars.

In the frameworks of the new European Union’s Strategy for Central Asia, the Federal Republic of Germany is actively participating in implementation of laws aiming to provide supremacy of law, support enhancement of the educational, health and energy sectors, promote sustainable development of economy and rational use of water resources as well as strengthening of border control and fight against drug trafficking.

Over the past decade, Germany has invested some 123 million euros in development of Tajikistan’s economy.

On December 14-16, President Rahmon will pay an official visit to Ukraine, the presidential press service said.
