DUSHANBE, December 20, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Heavy snowfall has affected passenger transport services in Dushanbe.

The situation which emerged in providing the population with the passenger transport services and communal services in the Tajik capital on December 20 caused the population”s dissatisfaction and complaints.

The Dushanbe, mayor’s office, however, says that 153 snow-removers are currently working in the city and the activity of the public utilities is under the direct control of the mayor.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfalls on December 19 caused a series of avalanches in northern Tajikistan that blocked in several places the highway from Dushanbe to Khujand, the administrative center of Sughd province, the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) said.  Fortunately, no casualties were reported, according to the source.
