DUSHANBE, December 26, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Two cotton-ginning factories have been seriously damaged by fires in the northern province of Sughd, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The source at a MoI says both fires broke out practically at the same time on December 25.

“The fire that broke out at the cotton-ginning factory “Soleh Ismatov” in the Mastchoh district damaged 550 square meters of the factory territory and destroyed 5,500 kilograms of raw cotton.  Damage caused by the fire has been estimated at some 10,000 somoni.”

The fire that broke out at the cotton-ginning factory “Faronak” in the Zafarobod district destroyed some 8,000 of raw cotton.  Damage caused to the Faronak ginnery by the fire has been estimated at more than 12,000 somoni.

In both cases, the fire was attributed to malfunction of the plants’ equipment, the source added.

705 fires have been reported in Tajikistan this year; 16 persons have been killed and 64 others have been injured in those fires.
