DUSHANBE, December 27, 2011, Asia-Plus  — 15,749 cases of influenza have been reported in Tajikistan during the current autumn-winter period, which is 800 cases more than in the same period last year, Navrouz Jaffarov, the head of the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision within the Ministry of Health, told Asia-Plus today.

“This year, only one type of influenza – H3 – has been registered in the country,” said Jaffarov, “Last year, three types of influenza were registered in Tajikistan – H1N1, H3 and B.”

According to him, they conducted vaccination against H1N1 influenza last year, and therefore, people have immunity and their organisms may counter different types of influenza.

“Some 500,000 people, including medical workers, pregnant women, law enforcement officers, border guards, firefighters and employees of the communications and energy sectors, were vaccinated against H1N1 influenza in October-December 2010,” Jaffarov noted.

Meanwhile, he added that the number of hepatitis cases has increased as compared to last year.  “To-date, 9,385 cases of hepatitis have been reported in the country, including 8,955 cases of hepatitis A (80 percent of those contracting hepatitis A are children and teenagers),” said Tajik chief sanitary inspector.  “Last year, 8,682 cases of hepatitis A were reported in the country.”
