KHUJAND, January 3, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Three suicide cases were reported in the northern Sughd province on December 30.  According to the Sughd police directorate, in all those cases, suicide was committed by men aged 49 to 52.

In the Jabborrasulov district, 51-year-old man committed suicide, leaving three children.

In the Lohouti jamoat of the Konibodom district, 49-year-old man committed suicide.  At his death he left four children.

In the Pashkent jamoat of the Istaravshan district, 52-year-old man committed suicide, leaving four children.

215 suicides cases and 59 suicide attempts have been reported in the province over the first eleven months of 2011.  Men, including eight minors, committed suicide in 97 cases and women, including 21 minors, committed suicide in 177 cases.  

It is to be noted that the authorities in Sughd province set up a special group to try to stem an increase in the number of suicides in the area.   Officials blame economic and family problems.
