KULOB, January 17, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A new cotton-ginning factory has been introduced into operation in the suburb of the city of Kulob, bringing the total number of the cotton-ginning factories operating in Khatlon’s Kulob region to thirteen.

A source close to the administration of the Tilloi Safed cotton ginnery says the plant with capacity of producing up to 10,000 tons of cotton fiber per year has been  built by the Dushanbe-based limited liability company Vektor (Vector).

“The cotton-ginning factory has already purchased 1,100 tons of raw cotton from cotton producing farms in Kulob and Vose districts,” the source said, noting that Vektor has the right of selling cotton fiber without any commission businesses.

Five cotton producing districts of the Kulob region reportedly yield on average up to 60,000 tons of raw cotton per year, while local thirteen cotton-ginning factories have a total capacity of processing 200,000 tons of cotton per year.
