KHUJAND, January 23, 2012, Asia-Plus — The number of persons seeking to adopt a child is reportedly increasing in Sughd province.

Ms. Gulchehra Ergasheva, head physician of the Khujand-based specialized medical facility, Dom Rebyonka (Babies’ Home), told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon that 330 residents of cities and districts in Sughd province have applied to them to adopt a child.  Meanwhile, there are other such babies’ homes in the province as well.

According to Ergasheva, the Khujand-based babies’ institution is now home for 36 girl babies and 22 boy aged 0 to 7.

“Most of the people are looking to adopt boy babies,” said Ergasheva.  “34 babies, primarily boys, were adopted last year.”
