KHUJAND, January 25, 2012, Asia-Plus — A 46-year-old resident of the Mastchoh district in Sughd province, G.F., has been arrested on suspicion of being a member of a criminal group.
An official source at the Sughd police directorate says G.F. was arrested in the Obburdon jamoat of the Mastchoh district yesterday.
“The preliminary investigation has established that by proposal and order from his fellow villagers N.T., 43, and E.N., 57, G.F. left Tajikistan in early October 1994 to receive religious education and special spy training abroad,” said the source. “G.F. left Tajikistan illegally using counterfeit Iranian passport.”
G.F reportedly returned home after receiving seven-month training for the purpose of committing a series of terrorist acts.
“The main military prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against G.F. under the provisions of Article 187 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – organizing a criminal group,” said the source. “The case has been subjoined to the case that was instituted in 2002.”
Two more cases have also been subjoined to the 2002 case – murder of two residents of Khujand and Chkalovsk committed in 1994 and murder of two residents of Khujand committed in 1995. All those murders were reportedly contracted by N.T. and E.N.
According to the data from the Sughd prosecutor’s office, 135 activists of outlawed religious and extremist organizations were arrested in Sughd province last year.
